Oh hey. Spring capsule? Yup, I skipped the winter one. The winter one was boring, pretty much the same as the fall one plus a couple new tops. My big take-away to remember next winter is that cozy is king when the days are short and cold. I would have been happy living in jeans and sweatshirts the whole time. Fall is for cute outfits, winter is for hibernating, and spring is for… zero color?
I debated whether to continue with the whole capsule template since I feel like I’ve fully transitioned into happily living with less. The urge to shop still resurfaces every once in a while, but overall I am content with what I have and find myself enjoying less.
This season, I could have shopped a whole long wish list. But some changes around the Russell home have us on a more frugal path, so I spent less than $70 total. Everything else I already had: either in storage or in my closet. And honestly, I didn’t needanything. This is something that I’ve been learning to embrace as I try to live more sustainably: the best thing is not new, it’s what’s already in your closet.
So here’s what I ended up with:
17 tops | 4 outerwear | 6 bottoms | 2 dresses | 2 rompers | 8 shoes = 39 pieces
**note: I try to only support companies who believe in sustainability, ethical production, and high quality products. However, I plan on wearing out my “fast fashion” clothing I still have, since getting rid of it when it’s perfectly in good condition would be irresponsible.
New-to-me items (from winter and spring) have links:

WEDGE SANDALS | WHITE SNEAKERS | MOCCASIN BOOTIES | WHITE BIRKS
(I realized after I made the visual, I have a white tunic I didn’t include, incase you’re wondering where the 17th top is… unless I’m the only one crazy enough to count shirts.)
Putting this together was as easy as pulling my spring/summer boxes out from under the bed, pulling out pieces I like for spring, putting away my heavier winter clothes and hanging up my new spring wardrobe. I almost don’t feel like this should be called a capsule anymore — it’s really just my spring clothes. But I have a hard time turning down a chance to organize thing in little rows and make lists. (My definition of fun may be a little weird…)
Anyway, Dresses and rompers finally make an appearance and color somehow doesn’t. Not sure how the no color thing happened, it wasn’t conscious. I’m going to roll with the neutrals and find out if they really are my thing or if I’ll get sick of them by summer.
The challenge for me was spanning the 40/50 degree days in mid-March and thinking in advance to the 70/80 degree days of mid-June. Oh the joys of Michigan. We’ll see, but if it doesn’t work, I’ll just phase in the summer stuff a bit earlier. After all, I make the rules.
